Soft skills, although I like to call them human skills, improve your ability to connect with others, communicate effectively and build trust. Historically, they were seen as the poor cousin of hard skills – or technical skills.
But not anymore.
Why are soft skills important?
To give you a competitive edge: It’s not enough to simply be technically very strong. You also need to be a great communicator, trustworthy, handle conflict and work well within a team. That’s where soft skills courses and coaching comes in.
To future proof your employability: Artificial intelligence is here and may soon be able to do many technical aspects of your role. Developing skills that will be extremely hard to replace by AI, such as interpersonal skills, is a smart move. For example, the below information was taken from Skills of the Future Report:
- There is massive value in information but it requires insight, perspective and the ability to communicate well to help drive better decisions
- In a rapidly changing environment, we must be highly flexible, able to deal with ambiguity, work across cultures and shape ourselves to new situations
- We must be life long learners with a deep appetite for the new and the ability to gain and develop new knowledge
- Everything comes from people. We will need exceptional interpersonal skills to tap into people’s talents and collaborate efficiently
Personal development courses
Personal development courses can help you to become the best version of yourself both at work and home. Challenging yourself and moving out of your comfort zone is a pre requisite to stay on top of your game. Pacing yourself so that you go at the right speed isn’t always easy, too fast and we can find ourselves overwhelmed which means that we can’t learn much of anything but going too slowly can mean that you’re not seeing the results you want.
